Raw Honey Cinnamon Mini-Rolls

07/06/2011

Raw Desserts, Raw Snacks

My whole family loves this raw food dessert. It’s sweet , sticky and absolutely delicious! It does require a dehydrator, and takes some time to make, but I think it’s worth it. When it comes to raw food desserts, it’s not always easy to find one that really hits the spot, but these flavorful little treats are just right. (They remind me of tiny Sugar Cinnamon Rolls.)

When added to food, cinnamon may help to stop bacterial growth, making it a great raw food preservative.  I love the nutritional value of this raw food dessert  almost as much as I love the flavor! Cinnamon has become one of my favorite spices because of it’s amazing health benefits. According to recent studies, just a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per day may lower LDL cholesterol. Other studies have shown that cinnamon is a great source of manganese, fiber, iron, and calcium.  Cinnamon may also provide significant relief for arthritis pain, it may help regulate blood sugar, it may have an anti-clotting effect on the blood, and it may also increase cognitive function and memory.

Honey-cinnamon Rolls Recipe:

4 cups flour

2 tsp salt

1 cup water

1/4 cup oil

__________

1/4 cup raw butter (softened)

1 cup raw honey

1 Tbs cinnamon powder

Stir salt into water until dissolved. Mix in oil.

Pour water, oil and salt over flour and mix immediately until forms soft dough. If it stays sticky, add flour as needed.

When dry enough, knead dough for about 10 min.

Roll out dough with rolling pin until 1/8 or 1/4 inch thick.

Spread softened butter on dough till fully covered.

Then Spread honey and sprinkle cinnamon.

Use a butter knife or spatula to spread it evenly over surface of dough.

Then carefully roll it up into a long roll.

Slice into 1/2 inch sections. Cover dehydrator tray with wax paper and place the rolls on it.

Dehydrate until rolls reach desired “crispiness” ( 5 or more hours ).  Makes about 50+ rolls.
(Note: If you want them softer, dehydrate for 4 hours and drizzle with extra honey when done.)
